Take I-93 South to Exit 24 (Ashland). Turn right onto Route 3 South, through Ashland into Holderness. This is approximately a 10-minute drive. In Holderness, take a left onto Route 113. The Oscar-winning film On Golden Pond was filmed in Holderness in the summer of 1980. The cabin used in the film is located off Route 113, but it is unfortunately not open to the public. On the right side of Route 113 is the entrance of Rattlesnake Mountain. This is an easy nine-tenths of a mile hike to the most gorgeous views of the lakes and mountains. Because it is such a short hike (about 25 minutes), it is appropriate for families with children. Route 113 will take you right into the town of Center Sandwich. This is approximately a 20-minute drive. The opening sequence of the television show Newhart was filmed here in Center Sandwich. During Columbus Day weekend, Center Sandwich is the site of The Sandwich Fair, the last agricultural fair of the season in New Hampshire. From Center Sandwich, take a right onto Bean Road. Bean Road will take you into Centre Harbor; driving time is approximately 15 minutes.
