And if phrases like "web 2.0", "blogging", and "social networking" make you a little uneasy, then fear not! You are definitely not alone. I'll give you a short overview of what you need to know about online success as well as several resources to help get you caught up. Start Here You'll need to know a few of the basics to get started, so here goes: What is Web 2.0? The answer to that question could fill a book, but I'll give you the basic description from Tim O'Reilly himself (the man who first coined the term): "[In Web 2.0] the cardinal rule is this one: Users add value. Figuring out how to build databases that get better the more people use them, is actually the secret sauce of every (successful) Web 2.0 company". Web 2.0 is much more than a page on your computer screen. It's interactive, it's a conversation, it's alive. How Can I Use It For My Benefit? Becoming a part of the online community is important for building your internet presence and reputation. Once you've participated enough, you can progressively build traffic to your other sites and establish yourself as a leader in your field. If done right, this will become an invaluable tool for your business success. How Do I Start? The internet is brimming with websites that offer you an online identity. MyBlogLog is a good place to start to see a smattering of what's out there. When you sign up, you'll see a whole host of sites that you can go to for continuing your online development. Each site offers you a personal profile with a unique web address, which you can use to advertise yourself or your services. You can even sign up here on ClassifiedFlyerAds.com to get a free blog profile page. What's The Best Way to Advertise Online? The answer to this depends on how much money you have. Assuming you're like the majority of people, you probably want the most bang for the least amount of bucks. Blogging is a great (free) way to advertise yourself and your services, and there are lots of blogging platforms to get you started. You can also use free classified sites like Craigslist or OLX to advertise job ads, real estate listings, products for sale, and services. Here on ClassifiedFlyerAds.com we automatically post your listings to tons of sites for very little cost. Essential Points to Remember When you first get started, gaining online success may seem like a daunting task. Here are some important points to keep in mind as you go into the wild blue yonder: Don't Give Up. If you start today with your online campaign, and by tomorrow aren't an overnight success, don't give up! Anything worth anything takes effort, continual contribution, and persistence. Be Active. Signing up for profiles on a hundred different sites, then just sitting back, will get you nowhere. You must contribute to these sites by continually submitting blogs, comments, links, news, and other useful information. The more you do this, the fatter your online presence becomes. Research and Observe. Read others blogs on topics you want to know about. Find successful online personalities and mimick what they do. Keep aware of trends and observe how others communicate. Dont Give Up. See #1. Notice I didn't say, "can be a challenge" or "might be a challenge" it is a challenge. I speak with such authority because I went through it and have met many others who have gone through it as well. Let me start off by saying, a few weeks is not enough time to create a strong online real estate identity  nothing can be substantially established in such a short period of time. Anything that is worth anything takes initiative, diligence, and ongoing contribution. When you come from having no online presence, blogging experience, or internet community to network with, the effort to create all that is daunting! And not for lack of resources, but because of an overabundance of them. It's hard to weed through all of the social network, social bookmark, and blog sites to see which ones are worth the time and which one's are a waste of time. Wouldn't it be great if someone had a blog or article titled something like, "How to Create an Online Presence Without Wasting Your Time: The Best and Worst Sites to Utilize"? I bet the farm that it would get quite a few excited followers (as long as it's good, of course). Any takers?http://www.classifiedflyerads.com/blog/A-Call-to-Real-Estate-Web-Gurus/10427/post_details/486/2008-03-18 12:08:53ActiveRain - Fun and BeneficialI recently signed up on ActiveRain, a network of real estate professionals who share stories, tips, listings, and just about everything else under the sun. I've got to say, that after just the first week of lurking around there, I've found myself captivated... no addicted... no obsessed . The first thing I do when I get to my desk is log on and get browsing, even before I check my email. You may be thinking, "How sad, another poor soul got sucked in to a fruitless blog site and can't get out". Oh, but you're wrong. It isn't fruitless at all! Active rain blogs often get indexed by Google and other search engines, which we all know increases traffic and visibility. Also, there are plenty of ActiveRain success stories to silence the naysayers. Okay, so the real reason I'm going on and on about this site is that, well, it's fun! You get to post blogs (who doesn't like to share their twocents?), add associates, enter contests, make and receive comments (a lot of that goes around, as this is quite an opinionated group of people), score points, and make friends! So give it a try and let me know what you think!http://www.classifiedflyerads.com/blog/ActiveRain--Fun-and-Beneficial/10427/post_details/424/2008-03-12 10:41:48
