We Buy Diabetic Test Strips: While the schools are focused on a regimen of math, science, English, and the social sciences, there may be something they are missing in their education. Though the schools’ jobs are to teach academics, they are finding themselves in more of a physical education role as well.
By physical education, exercise and sports is not all that is meant. The education of a child regarding his or her health and how to avoid future disease may be very important now, too. There was once a safeguard against children arriving home from school and hitting the cookie jar. That safeguard was called by another name-Mom.

How many kids could reduce the possibility of becoming diabetic at a later time in their lives if they learned good snack habits while they were still children in the growing stages?
The food pyramid is still around, as it was decades ago, but it has changed somewhat. Giving a good class on the basics of food requirements would be a great place to start. Most schools do already teach these concepts but there may be a better way of convincing the children to do more of their own monitoring. When they have a choice and are offered snacks, if they know which are likely to build muscle tone and to help keep them from getting sick, they could just choose the healthier choice. It could happen…
Where there is little school budget for extra classes and peripheral subjects, health classes may be cut along with music, art, and sports. The children may need to be taught about these subjects at home. Keeping healthy snacks around the house in abundance will certainly help. Instead of purchasing cheese curls and candies for them to eat after school, try fruit and other choices. Diabetes is a disease that should be avoided at all costs and perhaps the key is in educating the young before they form junk food habits.
