1. Make sure your travel company has in-depth knowledge of your destination area.

There's nothing worse than to have your trip planned by someone who has never set foot in your destination city. How can they possibly know which hotels are in a safe area? What's a great price for that attraction? What will traffic be like on this highway at this time? First-hand knowledge of the city you are going to is a must for your travel company.  2. Don't pay for your travel company's mistakes.

 Most people think it's the travel company's responsibility if something goes wrong. Well, the scary part is that unless you are working with someone who is fully bonded and insured, if something goes wrong, you could be responsible for the damages! Do yourself a favor and ask your travel company before you book your trip what kind of protection they offer in case something happens! If all your instruments are stolen because someone leaves them unattended, who will cover that? 3.  Know how long it takes to get 200 kids and 200 instruments on a bus.

 When you're traveling with a large group of children, extensive props, and heavy equipment, it's important to have a company that understands how much time it takes to get a large group like that ready and on the go. Loading up the buses with equipment, making sure everyone is accounted for, going to the festival, unloading the buses, setting up the equipment, performing, and so on. It's not uncommon for a travel company to miscalculate the time it takes and so instead of the promised 5 hours in the theme parks to play, you only really get about an hour. It's the easiest thing during your whole trip to underestimate. Your performance ends at 11:45 and you're on your way at noon? Right? Wrong! We know how far buses park from where we drop you off.  4. Teens always over pack. Know where the lockers are in every theme park.

It never fails. Teens have to bring a backpack full of their most essential items with them everywhere they go, (which is just about everything they own it seems). You can bet that after an hour in a theme park, someone is going to start complaining that their bag is too heavy. Save your ears the trouble of listening to them whine. Know where the lockers are immediately and make a beeline for them as soon as the complaints begin. Trust us, it will make your group's trip much more enjoyable!

5. Cheaper is not always better!

This is huge. Make sure when you compare travel packages, you're comparing apples to apples. Many times that other package can look more attractive because of price, but in the end you're getting what you paid for. Time and again we hear horror stories of other travel companies sending groups to inappropriate hotels in unsafe areas, or not including meals with the package so the chaperones need to figure out quickly how they can feed 200 hungry teenagers, or even saying that the trip includes a trip to a theme park, but once you get there, you discover it doesn't include the admission price for the tickets! Think of this. The cheaper hotel is 20 minutes further away than the more expensive hotel. In a 3-day trip, that could cost you more than four hours in travel time.
