Denver's Regional Transportation District (RTD) will be holding two FasTracks light rail public meetings in Douglas County on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. at the City of Lone Tree City Council Chambers, 8527 Lone Tree Pkwy. and on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Metro District of Highlands Ranch, 62 W. Plaza Dr.
These meetings are part of a series of 15 public meetings that RTD is hosting in each of the RTD districts (two in Douglas County) to get public input on the options for moving forward with the agency's FasTracks transit expansion program. RTD is facing challenges in providing services and projects during the sluggish economy. FasTracks continues to be impacted by slumping sales tax revenues and escalating construction costs, like steel, copper and concrete and fuel. If costs and revenues continue on their current trends, RTD estimates that it could cost $7.9 billion to build the FasTracks plan by 2017. It was originally budgeted to cost under $5 billion.
The meetings will include an overview of the status of FasTracks and explanations of the options for FasTracks. The public will then be given the opportunity to offer their feedback in a few different ways - automatic response during the meetings, verbal comments, through the FasTracks Web site, or by filling out a public comment card. The input will then assist the RTD Board in determining the best options for delivering FasTracks.
