Diabetes test strips are often used by people suffering from diabetes to test the level of sugar present in their blood stream. These test strips are also known as glucometer test strips. These strips make it easier for people who have diabetes to monitor their blood glucose level at home itself. Many of these home devices are tested to be very accurate and determine the blood sugar level to the till. There are several pharmaceutical companies that manufacture these test strips and each one is usually designed to be read according to a specific meter that comes along with the package box of the test strips.

To use these diabetes test strips, a tiny amount of blood is drawn from the body and is put on the blood glucose strip. The box of strips usually comes along with a lancet that can be used to prick the fingertip or palm or thigh to draw a little drop of blood.

This strip is then put through the diabetes meter. Every meter will have different methods to read the level of sugar in the blood. In some meters, light is reflected through the test strip to determine the blood sugar level. Other test strips analyze the electricity that is generated from the chemical reactions that form on the test strip when the blood and the chemical bases on the strip come in contact and determine the blood sugar level in the body based on this reading.

The diabetes test strips use various other methods but all are based on the reaction that the sugar in the body has with the substance to be reacted with on the strip. Glucose oxidase, dehydrogenase and hexokinase are the three chemical bases that are mainly used to test the blood sugar level. These bloody sugar strips are very convenient and facilitate easy monitoring of the glucose level in the body without having to make frequent trips to the doctor to check it. These test strips are available in most pharmacy stores and even in supermarkets. You can also order them online and have them delivered to your doorstep within a few days of ordering.
