I have been in the home business industry for almost 10 years and I still make the same mistake sometimes that new people make.

This article is about one common mistake that we all make in our home based business. The most common mistake is not sticking to a technique that works when calling people back.

I have a tendency to give out way too much information and loose people right off the bat, if I don't stick with my simple technique.

This actually happened to me last night when I was speaking to a pro in the industry that demand answers right then and there.  I didn't stick by what has always worked for me and lost them right off the bat!

Scripts are great if you are a script person.  I am not and have never been.  I have a tendency to say similar things over and over again, but in different words.

However, this simple technique has worked for me throughout the years and at least got people to the next level of looking at the information.

Getting people in front of the information is the most important step in building a business.

The key to getting people in front of the information is to keep things short, sweet and simple.

Here is what I do:

Hello Joe,

This is Michele Valenti calling with Global Resorts Network and the reason why I am calling is because I received a request that you were looking for a way to make money from home and I wanted to share with you on how you can make $1,000 commission checks with our company.

At this time, ALMOST ALWAYS, the person responds with "How do I do that?"

Or, if they don't, I say "are you still looking"?

No- I say thanks for your time

Yes- I proceed.

Regardless if they say "how do I do that" or "yes"

I ask if they have a pen and paper handy and will wait until they get one if I have too.

Then I proceed with:
My name is Michele Valenti
My number is 518.253.9991

I will ask them a few simple questions like:

I was just wondering, have you ever worked from home before?

How long have you been looking for something?

How much are you looking to make from home?

If you make (I repeat the number i.e.... $5,000), what would that allow you to do?

How many hours a week can you work from home?

Great! Do you have access to a computer right now?

Yes- I have them sit down and go to my website and start the video and let them
know that I will call them back in 10-15 minutes to answer any questions and if
they are not interested that it's ok to let me know that when I call them back.

Please note: Even though I let people know it's ok to say that they are not interested-some still won't answer the phone :)

If they don't have the time to look at my information right now, I simply ask them when they will and set up a time to call back.

The mistakes I find that I make sometime when I come across people who demand answers right then and there, like professional network marketers, is that I cave and give way too much information. (This is what happened to me last night). Then I kick myself and tell myself "why didn't I just stick to what works?".

When people demand answers I usually say something like:

I understand that you want answers and I am happy to answer all of your questions once you review some information.

If they persist again, I usually respond with something like:

I understand you would like all the answers now, but it would not make any
sense for me to try to explain things over the phone before you take a look at what our company has to offer you.  It would be like trying to give you a hair cut over the phone.  Do You have a Pen and Paper Handy and I will give you the address where you can get the information?

If they fight me beyond that, I simply let them know that it doesn't seem like we can work together and thank them for their time.

The results are always the same. I loose the person if I say to much or I get the person to the next level if I keep it short and sweet and insist that they look at the information.

The point to you:

It doesn't matter if you are seasoned in the home business industry or just starting out.  We all make the same kind of mistakes. We just need to learn from them and apparently, I need to work on that a little more.
